About Us

The Williamsburg Community School District enjoys a history deep in tradition. The 2023-24 school year will mark the 138th year of consecutive public school education under the name the Williamsburg Community School District. It's a community that brings families and educators together to create an environment of life long learning, achievement and excellence.  WCSD is a community where academics, the fine arts and athletics are all highly valued and vigorously supported.

Location

The Williamsburg Community School District is a rural district of roughly 5500 people located approximately 25 miles west of Iowa City.  It encompasses 202 square miles within its boundaries.  The school district is located in Iowa and Johnson counties.  The towns of Williamsburg, Parnell, and Conroy are located in the district.

Facilities

MARY WELSH ELEMENTARY (PK-6th grade)
Mary Welsh Elementary was constructed in 1999 and originally housed grades 3-6. In 2001, ten additional classrooms were added and second grade moved from Williamsburg Elementary.  In the spring of 2012 our PK-1 students moved from Williamsburg Elementary to the newly constructed wing. A Tornado Safe multi-purpose room was completed in the spring of 2015.  The spring of 2020 saw many improvements to the building.  An addition was placed on the lunchroom, added and reconfigured parking, and improved security in the front entrance were modifications that were completed. Currently there are approximately 600 students enrolled in grades PK-6.  For grades K-3, the district proudly supports a 20:1 student to teacher ratio. Mary Welsh also provides an Integrated Early Childhood Special Education PK.

WILLIAMSBURG JUNIOR/SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (7th-12th grade)
Williamsburg Jr/Sr High School was constructed in 1957 with five major additions completed in 1962, 1966, 1970, 2002, and 2012. Over the past 15 years, this facility has experienced numerous updates and new construction. The most recent updates include, a new science wing, Tornado Safe Shelter, remodeled library, auditorium, Family Consumer Science classrooms, and the front/administrative office area. In the fall of 2017, a new competitive gymnasium was added on to the Jr/Sr High School.  The building presently has an approximate enrollment of 600 students in grades 7-12.

Student Enrollment

The 2022-2023 certified enrollment of the district was 1160 students.  Williamsburg has been fortunate as its student population has remained steady over the past years.  The open enrollment option allowing parents to send their children to our district has added 120 students to the Williamsburg Enrollment.  Indications are that the open enrollment trend into Williamsburg will continue and possibly increase in succeeding years.

Faculty

The Williamsburg Community School District employs 101 administrators, teachers, including Title I, English Language Learners, Special Education, and Talented and Gifted.  Given the number of students within the district, students experience a favorable student to teacher ratio. The school district also provides an alternative school, and students can also attend Kirkwood Community College for PSEO and college credit.
